Covid-19 and weddings in Italy. New rules for 2020 weddings
I do! How Covid-19 is (NO longer) preventing your wedding in Italy in 2020
Frankly, it has been a nightmare. Due to Covid-19, weddings in Italy have been impossible until now. This has almost destroyed the dreams of couples getting married in 2020. Both couples and suppliers have suffered huge uncertainty.
While many have postponed their wedding to 2021 or 2022, some have decided to keep their 2020 arrangements. Weddings in Italy can now still go ahead despite Covid-19
Well, good news! Weddings are ready to re-start!
The region of Campania has finally issued regulations for wedding ceremonies (Ordinanza n . 55 del 5 giugno 2020) up until July 31st, 2020. This means that weddings can now take place in Sorrento, Capri and Amalfi coast, adhering to certain rules.
Below is a summary of the main points, which might slightly change or affect your previous arrangements.
the new regulations in short
- catholic ceremonies in a church: guests must wear a mask and must sit 1 mt from each other – (please check with your church on the maximum number of guests allowed to ensure social distancing) – Guests must not enter or exit all together and must not gather outside the church. The bride and groom must wear a mask (check with your church) Live background music is allowed, but no choirs.
- outdoor symbolic or civil ceremonies: the bride and groom and guests DO NOT have to wear masks. Guests who don’t belong to the same family must sit 1 mt from each other. Before entering the ceremony area, the venue’s staff must check the body temperature of each guest. If higher than 37.5 C the guest cannot be permitted.
- access to the reception venue: if different from the ceremony venue, the venue’s staff will check the body temperature of all guests upon entry. If higher than 37.5 C the guest cannot be permitted.
- the welcome cockail: buffet service is not possible. Waiters will serve food and drinks on trays, being passed around. Guests do not have to wear a mask if the cocktail hour is outside.
- the wedding reception: tables are placed apart to respect social distancing rules. Each table must sit guests mainly belonging to the same family. Guests do not have to wear a mask while sitting, but need to wear one if they move around the venue.
- music and dancing: music is not allowed unless all guests wear a mask. Dancing is NOT allowed.
- photos and videos: photographers and videographers must wear a mask. Currently it is not possible to have family photos with friends (unless they are 1 mt apart from each other…).
- service: waiters must wear a mask and must clean their hands very frequently. Therefore, the duration of the reception will be extended.
Please note that the above regulations are valid for weddings up until July 31st, 2020 and might change anytime without prior notice. The government could include stricter restrictions to acknowledge public health and safety if needed.
What happens after July 31st?
For 2020 weddings taking place from August 1st, 2020, some restrictions might be lifted if the local and international situation improves.
